BIOGRAPHY &
FILMOGRAPHY
Born and raised in Wuppertal, Dirk could hardly ever get excited about school, but all the more about theater. So he performed with the very passion that he only knew from music so far playing the bass guitar in heavy metal bands. After school, Dirk did his alternative service in geropsychiatry. Studying German and English for teaching in Wuppertal and Düsseldorf, Germany, he also completed acting training. Dirk was at the TIC, Theater in Cronenberg then, where amongst others later German film stars such as Christoph Maria Herbst, Joachim Kosack, and Axel Stein were members of the company.
In the 1990s, Dirk was a founding member and head of the New Wuppertal Theater (neue wuTh) for several years. Also he was in charge of the JVA Remscheid prison drama group BAMBULE directing comedies of mistaken with murderers, bank robbers and drug dealers. Up to the early 2000s he often appeared both on stage and screen.
During the following years Dirk mainly worked as a copywriter and creative director in advertising. He created a series of campaigns and became a conceptual designer in event marketing with various agencies, including German market leader Vok Dams.
After developing his first screenplay ideas, Dirk began to entirely focus on filmmaking in 2009. Since then he has been writing numerous film and series projects, several of them co-financed by German funders such as nordmedia.
From 2011 to 2019, Dirk was a producer and the CEO of REX Film Produktion. "KING PING" (2013) was his feature film debut as a screenwriter, co-director, and producer. The crime comedy starring Sierk Radzei, Godehard Giese, Jana Voosen, Bela B, Christoph Maria Herbst, Uwe Dag Berlin, Hans-Martin Stier, and Angelika Bartsch was realized with the minimal budget of only 360,000 EUR, basically raised through crowdfunding, crowd investing, sponsorship and product placements.
In 2019, Dirk set up Germany based BLACK AND HONEY PICTURES. Starting out from Hannover and Cologne, he has been developing several feature films and series. Among his first projects with Black And Honey is the black comedy series "DIE MORDAPOSTEL" ("THE TEABAG KILLERS") of which he is the creator, writer, and he also directed the pitch pilot episode.
His second work with Black And Honey is his musical comedy miniseries "BRASS `N´ BEANS" ("DRAUSSEN NUR KÄNNCHEN"), screenplay and project development funded by nordmedia. As part of the funding he directed a 7´ pitch video with high production value. Currently, he is developing another miniseries, one series, and three feature films. One of them is „BÖSER WOHNEN®“ („LOVELY LETHAL LADIES“), the world´s first KILLCOM® namely the unholy alliance of killing and comedy.
In addition to his work as a writer, director, and producer he has been a DJ for over 20 years, mainly in world music, soul and retro sounds.
